A Gorgeous, Windy Winter Day On The Lake. In Photos and Videos

Strong winds and blowing snow on the Lake Champlain
causeway in South Hero Sunday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon, Lake Champlain: A couple days after that big storm of powdery snow dumped more than a foot of snow on the icy surface of the lake, the wind picked up.

It always does in the winter on and near Lake Champlain.  Winds gusting to 40 mph or so propelled that fallen snow into South Hero and other south facing shores of the lake.

This all happened under a gorgeous, almost otherworldly sky.  Plus, some kite skiers took advantage of the very blustery weather to spend the afternoon skipping along the lake surface towed by their kites flying in the wind.

Of course, I had to take photos and videos, and the results are on this page. Scroll down to look at the pbotos, and at the very bottom is the video.  The video really shows what it's like to be on the Lake Champlain islands in the middle of winter.

area can look like a lonely Arctic trek this time of year.

Now onto the video. Lots of blowing snow, and an expansive lake, making things look both bleak and beautiful.  If you don't see it displayed below, click on this hyperlink.  To view the video most clearly, click the red arrow on the below image, then the YouTube logo.
